No one likes to be sick. Let’s be honest, being sick kind of sucks! The sad thing is it seems like the cold and flu “bug” has infected our calendar, because it seems to have become an annual or bi-annual season. We are not OK with this, so to help you not only combat the dreaded colds and flu, we want to give you three ways to deal with and conquer this epidemic.
Three Ways to Conquer the Flu
The first thing you need to do is rest. With rest, I am not talking about just not running around and going places, but also mental rest. Unplug. A better word would be disengage. Turn off your phone and shut down your computer. Instead do something offline like picking up a good book, watching a movie, drawing, doing a cross word, or assembling a puzzle.
We all have experienced this at one time or another when we are a cottage, or on vacation and it usually makes us feel rested and rejuvenated. Why not re-introduce this into your life now? All of these will lower stress hormones and increase the healing hormones. And will help you ward off a cold or flu, or get you through it faster.
2. Feed a Flu the Right Foods
Secondly, nutrition is exceptionally important when battling the flu. One of the best ways to fend off a cold or flu is to eat foods that will help you build the healthy cells you need to fight and feel better. Eating things like Garlic, which has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties; dark leafy greens, which are an excellent source of Vitamin C and sweet potato which is a great source of Vitamin A that helps promote healthy mucosal surfaces helping to prevent the entry of infection into the body.
These foods will give your body the fuel it needs to fight of the offending flu or cold. And of course, stay hydrated! Drinking enough water and warm liquids will help to flush and clear your system of toxins, helping your body to function more efficiently.
3. Chiropractic Can Boost Your Immune System
Lastly, see you chiropractor. Most people don’t realize this, but a chiropractic adjustment is one of the best ways to boost your immune system. Research has shown that a single adjustment will cause a release of your body’s natural immune cells. We always tell our patients that when you are feeling sick, this is the best time to get adjusted. If you are seeing a chiropractor, make sure you get in for an extra adjustment or two. If you aren’t seeing a chiropractor right now, give us a call, we would love to help!
Hope that helps conquer and stay away from the cold and flu. Please share this anyone that you know needs a little chicken noodle soup for their soul.
